What is Vaccination Subsidy Scheme?
Vaccination Subsidy Scheme is a scheme that provides subsidised seasonal influenza and pneumococcal vaccination to eligible Hong Kong residents through the participation of private doctors. The Government reimburses subsidy to enrolled doctors for providing vaccinations to eligible persons. On top of Government's subsidy, enrolled doctors may impose extra charge for the vaccination.
Why is seasonal influenza vaccination important?
Influenza occurs in Hong Kong more common in periods from January to March and from July to August. Persons with weakened immunity and elderly persons get infected, it can be a serious illness and may be complicated by bronchitis, pneumonia, encephalopathy, or even death in the most serious cases. Seasonal influenza vaccination is one of the effective means to prevent seasonal influenza and its complications. It takes around 2 weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in our body. It is important to vaccine early for protection.
